Fair by design
Neighbourhood Listing is a free guide to local businesses. There are no ads, no sponsored listings and no pay-to-rank. Listing a business is free too; the one paid option, $5, only publishes a new listing straight away instead of within 7 days.
📊 Rankings
How rankings work
A plain average rewards luck: one 5-star review would beat hundreds of 4.7s. Instead we use a Bayesian average, which treats every business as if it started with 10 reviews at 3.5 stars, then lets its real reviews pull it up or down.
The formula
score = (reviews × rating + 10 × 3.5) ÷ (reviews + 10)
- 4.7 stars from 300 reviews
- 4.66
- 5.0 stars from 2 reviews
- 3.75
Businesses with no rating yet appear last. Claiming a listing doesn’t change its position, and nobody can pay to move up. We publish a “best of” page for a city when it has at least 5 businesses in that category, and a neighbourhood page when it has at least 3.
